14.09.2009 – As part of major reforms to improve the integrity of the 457 visa program the Department of Immigration and Citizenship has released new legislation and policy. The changes are aimed at providing equality between Australians and temporary residents in the work place and not undermine local training and employment opportunities. The new reforms have brought in new obligations that are enforceable with civil penalties, a system of determining ‘market salary rates’, new arrangements in regards to health insurance for 457 visa holders and changes to the conditions imposed on 457 visa holders to enable 457 visa holders to transition between employers without needing to reapply for a new visa.
